The University of Queensland asks new students to submit a photo for their student ID card. According to UQ's student ID card page, the photo must clearly show your face and upper shoulders. It needs a plain white or light background, with your face straight on, and can be supplied as a JPG, PNG or PDF. UQ does not publish a pixel size, so this preset crops to a 3:4 portrait, gives framing tips rather than pass or fail, and exports a JPEG and a PNG.

Can I take it myself? Yes
Yes. UQ expects you to supply the photo. Take it against a plain white or light wall with someone else holding the camera, then upload it as UQ's page directs.
How to take the photo
- Read UQ's student ID card page for the current upload link and deadlines.
- Take the photo against a plain white or light background, face straight on, showing face and upper shoulders.
- Remove hats and sunglasses; keep hair off your face.
- Load it here and export the JPEG or PNG.
- Upload it through UQ's process and follow their instructions to collect your card.
Why UQ student card photos get rejected
- Photo too dark or backlit. Face a window; avoid bright light behind you.
- Not just head and shoulders. The tool crops to head and shoulders.
- Sunglasses or a cap. Remove them; clear glasses are usually fine.
- Busy background. Use a plain light wall.
- Blurred. Hold still, tap to focus, use the rear camera.
Infants and children
Not applicable: student cards are issued to enrolled students, not infants. For a baby passport photo see the baby passport pages.
What it costs
UQ does not charge to upload the card photo as far as we know; check UQ's page. The Single licence (A$6.99) gives the clean files.
