Compress a photo to a kilobyte limit
Pick a portal preset or set your own window, drop the photo in, and get a JPEG that fits. The proportions are untouched; only the quality (and, if needed, the pixel size within your bounds) changes.

Frequently asked questions
How does it get the file under the limit?
It searches JPEG quality until the encoded size lands inside your window, keeping the pixel size unless the limit cannot be met, in which case it scales within the pixel bounds you set.
Will it crop my photo?
No. The proportions stay exactly as uploaded. Use the document tool to crop.
Why is there a minimum as well as a maximum?
Some portals (UK 50 KB, NZ 250 KB, COVA 40 KB) reject files that are too small because they signal low quality. The tool raises quality or size to reach the minimum.
Is quality lost?
JPEG compression discards some detail at lower quality. The search keeps the highest quality that fits, so the loss is the minimum the limit allows.
Is the photo uploaded?
No. Compression runs in your browser.
Does it handle HEIC?
Yes. HEIC files are decoded locally and output as JPEG, which every portal accepts.
