Seek and Indeed profile photo photo requirements

Job sites such as Seek and Indeed let you add a profile photo that employers may see alongside your profile. Neither publishes strict photo rules that we could confirm, so treat this as a professional headshot: square, face clearly visible, plain background, sharp and well lit. The tool crops a square around your head and shoulders, gives framing tips rather than pass or fail, and exports an 800×800 JPEG and PNG that the sites can resize.

Can I take it myself? Yes

Yes. No authority sets rules for a profile or CV photo, so anything that looks like you, is sharp and is well framed will do. A photo someone else takes from a couple of metres, at eye level, in soft window light, looks far better than an arm's-length selfie. The tool here gives framing tips rather than pass or fail, and exports the sizes each use expects.

How to take the photo

  1. Decide whether you want a photo on your job-site profile; it is optional.
  2. Take a head-and-shoulders photo against a plain light wall in soft light, with someone else holding the camera.
  3. Look at the camera with a relaxed, friendly expression; dress as you would for the role.
  4. Load it here and follow the framing tips.
  5. Export the 800×800 JPEG and upload it in your profile settings.

Why Seek / Indeed photo photos get rejected

  1. Face too small in a circular crop. Use the head-size control; aim for the head to fill about 60 per cent of the frame.
  2. Busy background competes with the face. Stand in front of a plain wall or use the background option.
  3. Harsh shadows. Face a window; avoid overhead light.
  4. Low resolution on high-DPI screens. Export the 800 px version and let the platform downscale.
  5. Cropped through the top of the head. Leave a little space above the hair; the tool's crown allowance does this.

Infants and children

Not applicable to professional headshots. For a baby's passport photo, use the baby passport pages, which apply each country's infant rules.

What it costs

Seek / Indeed photo photo FAQ

Does Seek require a profile photo?

No. A profile photo on Seek is optional.

What size should it be?

We could not confirm an official size for either site. A square 800×800 JPEG is a safe choice that both can resize.

Should it match my LinkedIn photo?

Using the same photo everywhere helps recruiters recognise you.

Can I use a casual photo?

A clean, professional headshot works best for job applications.

Is the photo checked against rules?

No. There are no published rules, so the tool gives framing tips only.

Will employers see my photo?

That depends on each site's privacy settings; check your profile visibility settings.
